Motivation Tip: Think About Your Post-Run Self

One day last week I was having a hard time motivating myself to get out of bed early and go for a run. I felt cranky and tired and I knew the windy conditions was going to make the run tough. But then I started to think about how I would feel after I finished. I knew I’d feel like I’d already accomplished a lot that day and it would energize me to tackle the rest of the day. I’d feel healthier, stronger, and more focused.

It’s really hard to feel worse after a run. I can’t think of a time when I actually regretting going for a run. But I can think of plenty of times when I was kicking myself for not going when I had the chance. If you’re having a hard time motivating yourself to get out of bed, get off the couch, or get out of that desk chair, think about your post-run self and get yourself to that feeling.
